By far my greatest challenge in/by far my favorite place in the world.
It is a 25 minute drive on logging roads and then one has to hold ropes in order to get up and down a steep slope to spend the afternoon. The Chehalis river is a torrent of rushing water, but right here is a serene calm oasis. Few people know about it.
As a fine artist working in wax that melts as it will, ooooh, what a challenge to try to capture all that I see. If one brings their face close to the water on the painting, it is such a mishmash of detail and WTF moments, but to stand back, it is Aha's! Reflections and shadows on crystal clear waters.
Always fighting with myself if it was too much detail, or not enough, and oigh, this drove me nuts until a voice in my head screamed --- it is enough now!!!. I fought to get the water wax as smooth as that day and did come close. Perfection is for idiots and I wasn't going to be idiot enough to ruin it all with an idiot concept. I got pretty darn smooth considering the detail.
The trees and rocks I felt so intimate with as I always do with my work and I loved how the highlights were illuminating behind everything.
The place is magic and I enjoyed studying every little detail of the photo I took by making a painting of it. So glad to be an artist.
May you have beauty and peace in your journey.
